Origin

With the people who keep coffee growing.

In a changing climate, some producers are finding their own ways to keep coffee growing. 2050 coffee works with these partners year after year, brings their coffee into everyday life and shares their stories. Every new partner is added here before their coffee reaches our menu.

FAF Coffees

Brazil

FAF Coffees

Based in Brazil's Mogiana region, FAF Coffees (Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza) grows and exports coffee from its own farm and with partner growers. They have worked with organic and shade-grown coffee since the early 2000s, and today they are moving toward regenerative farming.

They plant a mix of trees and plants alongside the coffee, and build healthy soil with pruned branches and leaves and microbes from the forest. With no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, the soil and the life around it grow richer every year. Shade and rich soil protect the coffee from heat and drought. Through their Future Farmers program, they share this way of farming with growers nearby.

House of Beans

Indonesia

House of Beans

A project led by Bank Indonesia, together with the Embassy of Indonesia in Tokyo and Indonesia's Ministry of Trade. It selects producers from across Indonesia and connects their coffee directly with roasters and cafes in Japan, coffee that once could only reach Japan through trading companies.

From island to island, community to community and method to method, Indonesian coffee is wonderfully diverse. This project shares that diversity, together with small producers.

Kaapi and Culture

India

Kaapi and Culture

A Tokyo-based importer bringing India's finest specialty coffee to Japan. They combine Japanese kaizen (continuous improvement) with Indian jugaad (finding a way through ingenuity), working with producers to improve quality control, processing and equipment.

They also explore new processing methods, such as koji and anaerobic fermentation. Lab CMO, served at 2050 coffee, is a coffee from Chikmagalur, India, that we found through them.

Madagascar Coffee Company

Madagascar

Madagascar Coffee Company

A company founded to bring Madagascar's specialty coffee back to the world. They have built 11 processing centres across the country, buy cherries directly from farmers, and can trace every lot back to the farmer and the plot. Compared with selling through middlemen, farmers' incomes are expected to rise by 20 to 40%.

They also grow seedlings and offer technical support to raise yields, working to make coffee an industry with a future in a country that has lost much of its forest.

Looking ahead

From one farm to a global network.

Today

It starts with our partners

We work with partners in four countries. Their coffee goes into our everyday cups, and every shop shares their stories.

As we grow

More shops, stronger ties with farms

The more cups we serve, the more we buy from our partner farms, and the longer our commitments to producers who are adapting to a changing climate.

Towards 2050

More value for coffee-growing communities

Every year, we'll publish an impact report showing the value that reached the places where our coffee is grown.

World Coffee Research

A member of World Coffee Research.

2050 coffee is a member of World Coffee Research (WCR), a non-profit agricultural research organization developing new coffee varieties so coffee can keep growing as the climate changes.

Beyond the coffee we buy, we also support research that protects the future of coffee for the whole industry.
